Establishment & Purpose

Pacific Silk Road (PSR) was established in 2021 in collaboration with Ausmate Group International, with a clear focus on building structured pathways for trade facilitation, import-export development, and cross-border investment between Fiji and Asia.

Government Engagement — Fiji

From its early formation, PSR and Ausmate Group actively engaged stakeholders within the Government of Fiji to advance this initiative. Through a series of formal meetings and consultations, the then Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport, Hon. Faiyaz Koya, provided the initial governmental engagement pathway — which led to further introduction and engagement with the Office of the Trade Commissioner under the Consulate General of Fiji in Shanghai, led by Dr. Yolinda Chan.

This engagement process involved structured dialogue, institutional vetting, and ongoing consultation with both the Minister's office and Dr. Chan's office. The outcome significantly supported PSR and Ausmate Group in aligning with Fiji's trade facilitation priorities, particularly in relation to import-export development between Fiji and China.

PSR is also grateful for continued engagement with the Government of Fiji, including interactions with the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, further strengthening institutional relationships within the trade and investment sector.

During this period, Dr. Yolinda Chan's office played a key role in supporting and guiding the development of PSR and Ausmate Group's regional trade initiatives, providing valuable insight and strategic alignment within the broader China–Pacific trade ecosystem.

Papua New Guinea — SEZ Summit 2025

While the original intention was for Fiji to be one of the first regional platforms to formally advance the Ausmate Group trade facilitation model, the initiative has not yet fully materialised within Fiji and remains in development. In contrast, Papua New Guinea formally engaged with Ausmate Group in September 2025, marking a significant step forward in regional adoption of the platform.

As part of this engagement, Ausmate PTY. LTD. was invited to participate in the Papua New Guinea Special Economic Zones Summit 2025. From 28 August to 3 September 2025, at the invitation of H.E. Dr. Thaddeus Kambanei, Ambassador of Papua New Guinea to China, representatives of Ausmate PTY. LTD. attended the second Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Summit held in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. This engagement further strengthened Ausmate Group's positioning within PNG's economic development and investment framework.

The Road Ahead — Fiji

PSR remains committed to the vision of establishing this framework within Fiji and continues to view it as a matter of timing and alignment. The foundation has already been laid, and the expectation is that Fiji will, in due course, fully benefit from and adopt the Ausmate–PSR trade facilitation platform alongside its regional partners.
